It’s funny how quickly time passes some times. In some ways I can’t imagine not having Kira and yet a year ago we’d only just met her and were trying to decide which puppy to bring home in a fortnight. I thought it was a good time to reflect on the process we went through before finally finding and choosing […]

When life gives you lemons…

I’m regularly amazed by how unfazed by anything dogs can be. A fortnight ago Kira had surgery and yet within 48 hours she was back to her normal self, desperate to go for a walk, play ball etc. Not that she was allowed but if she had been allowed she would of. Yesterday on our walk down by the Wendover […]

Bank holidays are for visiting family

I can’t ever decide if we’re lucky to have family living at opposite ends of the country or whether were unfortunate for the fact. Doesn’t really matter either way seeing as Al’s parents live in Yorkshire and mine in Devon and we’re somewhere in between. This means that like many people the start and the end of a bank holiday weekend includes several hours in a car. This bank holiday we were headed t’up north! Yorkshire here we come. And of course Kira was in the car with us. Now if you read my blog regularly you’ll know that Kira was spayed just over a week ago and on the Friday we were told by the vet that she needed to slowly build up over the week to her normal amount of exercise…problem is nobody told the dog. So she generally had a whale of a time being…well Kira. She started the Saturday morning off calmly enough with a bit of stick chewing in the garden. Stick chewing is the best, obviously. Then she realised that she wasn’t in her normal garden, Granny Bowman’s garden is a bit larger than ours and if she ran in and out of the bushes she could make herself quite the running circuit. Then she decided a game of hide and seek was necessary, again another favourite. This was followed by an attempt to drink from the pond fountain. Problem is Kira hasn’t quite […]

The worms go in, the worms come out

If you read my blog you’ll know that a couple of days ago we order a pet waste wormery. And with fabulous customer service from Wormcity it was delivered today! It was really easy to set up and the worms seemed pretty happy once they came out of the bag. All we have to do now is wait a couple of weeks, hope not to many worms attempt an escape before they decide it should be their home. We’ll keep you update on their progress!

What to do with Poo?

A couple of weeks ago my partner and I started discussing alternatives to disposing of all the waste Kira produces. When you buy a dog you don’t think about how much poo one dog can produce…it’s a lot. Anyway, currently we have been bagging and throwing it away. If we’re out on a walk we take our biodegradable bags with […]

Photo Challenge: Liquid

I’ve been thinking about this weeks photo challenge for a few day; liquid. Kira loves playing in water, whether it’s down at the beach, in a river or just playing with the hose in the garden. But one of my favourite photos is from our trip to see my Nana down near Bournemouth. We were so lucky with the weather that […]

To Spay or Not to Spay?

When we first got Kira back in July we really weren’t sure if we would get her spayed. I mean she was so sweet and cute and fluffy who wouldn’t want to fill the world with more of her? However, we did know that realisically we only had a very small window in which it would be viable for us […]
