Just take a minute to see
“What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.”
– William Henry Davies
With our lives so busy it’s often easy to rush around and not see the things around us. Today we took Kira for a walk. It’s a walk we do regularly, in fact we’d walked it Friday morning. But the weird thing is it was like we were on a completely different walk. Yesterday we’d been trying to fit a longish walk in before going to work so were power walking. We were so focused on getting through the walk we didn’t see what we were surrounded by.
Today the sun was shining, we had the whole day to get things done. So we were slower. We stopped. At the start of the walk we walk down the edge of a field and next to it is a wild flower field.
Doesn’t look like much to be honest. But if you slow down and look more carefully, it’s full of all sorts of colours, plants and insects. We only noticed because of the number of butterfly that were flying around. It’s been years since I’ve really stopped to watch butterflies. I can’t even think of a good reason, why I stopped.
Maybe part of the problem with life is that we’re so busy trying to do things, be places, see people etc that we forget to stop and take a second. We forget to look around us. To see whats in front of us. How is that 24 hours after walking the same path I see completely different things. How did I miss these poppies the first time!
We get so caught up in our lives, the rules and time frames we stick on ourselves that we’re forgetting to take a minute. To look, see, feel, enjoy the things around us.
Next time you go for a walk, take a moment to just stand still. To look around you. To really see what’s out there. The world is full of wonderful and beautiful things to enjoy. What have you been seeing but not actually seeing?
