Dogs are for life
My sister recently got a puppy and Kira and I have spent a couple of days puppy sitting as we’re on Easter holidays.
Lots of people love puppies. They’re so cute and fluffy and ill-proportioned, all ears and legs. And they pull at the heart strings.
But I’m going to be honest I do not miss the puppy puppy stage. Kira is only 11 months so still technically a puppy even though she looks all grown up but she’s toilet trained, can do basic obedience, can go anywhere and be left alone for a few hours. Puppy puppies can’t!
I didn’t get a puppy because I wanted a puppy. I got a puppy because I wanted a dog. A dog to go on walks with, go on adventures with, play with and cuddle with. This puppy puppy stage is such a tiny amount of the time we spend together you blink and you’ll miss it. One minute she was puppy puppy the next she was a big dog!
So the saying “A dog is for life, not just for christmas” is so true. Don’t buy a puppy because you want a puppy. Buy a puppy because you want a dog.
